OKOLONA - The Lady Chiefs put a notch in the win column last week after a negative start on the week. The Lady Chiefs dropped to the Lady Trojans of Bruce 88-28 on Friday with sophomore Quinndella Ford posting 18 of the Okolona points.
On Saturday, the Lady Chiefs hosted the Lady Cats of Calhoun City in the annual Hardwood tourney and everybody got in on the action. The Lady Cats took a quick 15-6 first quarter lead, but the Lady Chiefs came back strong to go into the half up 27-21. The third quarter saw Calhoun City come back and the battle went to the buzzer with the Lady Chiefs pulling out a 63-59 win.
Ravin Barr led with 24 followed by Ford with 18 and Lameisha Gunn with 11.
Chiefs splitThe Chiefs started off the week in a positive form with a 56-47 win over the Bruce Trojans. The Chiefs jumped out in front in the first and held the lead through the half. The Trojans made a strong run in the third but the Chiefs shut them down in the fourth for the win.
David Gardner led Okolona with 21 followed by Ordarrion McCoy with 14. Martavis Hill and Dialan Blanchard both posted 10 points in the win.
The Chiefs hosted West Lowndes in the Hardwood tourney and both teams gave their fans their money's worth, running a neck-and-neck game and moving into overtime.
Following a scoreboard error and correction, the Panthers had only the last seconds to secure a goal for the 80-79 win. The full-court buzzer shot from Okolona fell short.
