Toppers split week

HOUSTON – The Houston Hilltoppers got off to a good start on the week with a win over East Webster on the home court Dec. 1.

The Wolves got the upper hand with an 18-14 lead in the first quarter, but the Toppers got their feet under them and went on the offensive, outscoring the Wolves in the final three quarters for the 67-49 win.

Devante Pulliam and Kirby Jones led Houston with 15 each, followed by Xavier Echoles and Thomas Hill with eight each.

The Houston boys headed to Calhoun City Friday to take on Coach Coffey’s always tough Wildcats and struggled with a first quarter deficit. After finishing the first quarter down 16-12, the Toppers tried to make up the different, but fell short in the end and took a 76-60 loss.

Devante Pulliam led with 17 followed by Kirby Jones with 14.

For Calhoun City, Taboris Coffey led with 16 followed by Charlie Easley and J.R. Jennings with 11 each.

The Toppers headed across the creek to Okolona for the Hardwood tourney Saturday night and drew East Oktibbeha. The Toppers battled the Titans throughout the game, but fell 65-54.

Lady Toppers playing positive

The Lady Toppers upped their record to 6-1 win a Dec. 1 win over the Lady Wolverines of East Webster. The Lady Toppers dominated the goal in the first three quarters outscoring the Lady Wolves 49-11 before the Lady Wolves posted a double-digit fourth quarter with 14.

TyNita Baker led for Houston with 14 followed by Tori Nichols with 13 and Chancedy Pulliam with six.

The Lady Toppers 51-25 win moves them to 6-1 on the year.
