PHEBA – The Hebron Eagles had one last shot at making playoffs but it was not to be as the Winona Stars took a 26-6 win over the Eagles Friday night.
The Stars scored first, putting eight points on the board in the first quarter, but the Eagles answered back with a TD for six of their own, keeping the game close for a while.
The second quarter saw the Stars gain another two TD to put them up 20-6 and add one more in the third for a 26-6 win.
The Eagles went into the game knowing the facts. A win by less than 13 points would put the Eagles in the second spot for playoffs, while a win by over 13 points would give them the division championship. A loss to Winona would send them home.
An earlier loss to Central Holmes on Homecoming set up the do-or-die scenario.
“We kind of shot ourselves in the foot at homecoming,” said Michael Shelton. “We had to win against Winona to make playoffs.”
The Eagles score came on a 15-yard pass from Yance Faulkner to Blake Edwards.
