Therman Mitchell
OKOLONA - Therman Lige Mitchell, 76, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at his residence in Okolona. He was born on Aug. 6, 1932, in Booneville to Lige and Helen Weeks Mitchell. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He married Martha Ann Patterson on Aug. 13, 1955, in the Bissell community of Lee County and they lived most of their adult life in Okolona. He worked for the City of Okolona for over 30 years, retiring in l997 as superintendent of the Street and Water Department. He was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church of Okolona and the Jimmy Kyle Sunday School Class. A Master Mason affiliated with Prairie Lodge 87, he enjoyed the great outdoors, fishing and hunting, keeping a beautiful yard and raising produce in his garden. He will be sorely missed by a grateful family and community.
Services were held Thursday, July 30, 2009 in the Okolona Chapel of Holland-Harris Funeral Directors with Bro. Eric Boykin and Bro. Larry Sullivan officiating. Private burial followed in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Martha Mitchell of Okolona; his daughter, Melanie Davis (William Lake) of Huntsville; three sons, Randy Mitchell (Melinda) of Pascagoula, Dennis Mitchell (Debbie) of Pontotoc and Scott Mitchell of Starkville; eight grandchildren, Megan, Joshua, Christian, Jordan, Cal, Kaylie, Lige and Katelyn; two brothers, Charlie Mitchell of Aberdeen and Lige "Mitch" Mitchell of Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Maggie Sullivan and Linda Lou Pounders.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Cal, Lige and Joshua, Wade Nicholson, Kenneth McVay and Harold Jolly. Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School Class.
Grace Pepper
HOUSTON - Grace Elizabeth Pepper, 87, died Sunday, July 26, 2009. She was born Dec. 22, 1921, in Webster County to Bruce Oswalt and Polela Britt Oswalt. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
Services were held Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Bro. Danny Bryant officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home of Houston was in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Pepper (Myra) of Clinton and Bruce Pepper (Lana) of Houston; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Mitchell Pepper; an infant daughter; and two sisters and four brothers.
Memorials may be made to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund.
Ruby Lindsey
PONTOTOC - Ruby Mae Hamilton Lindsey, 79, died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at her residence in Pontotoc. She was a native of Chickasaw County. She was a member of Wilson Chapel M.B. Church, where she served on the Mother's Board. She was retired from Mississippi Eaton Manufacturing. She had a passion for cooking and being concerned about others. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nettie Lindsey-Farr.
Services were held Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Pontotoc Second Baptist Church. The Rev. Colbert Graham officiated. Burial was in Pontotoc City Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, George Lindsey Sr. of Pontotoc; four daughters, Patricia (James) Long, Diane Bolton, Zettie (Louis) Pegues and Ruby Jean (John) Parks, all of Pontotoc; seven sons, John Author (Tammy) Lindsey of Milwaukee, Wis., Joe Earnest (Beverly) Lindsey, J.T. (Earline) Lindsey and Michael Lindsey, all of Beloit, Wis., Hayvert (Joyce) Lindsey, George (Louise) Lindsey Jr. and Willie Murl (Tasha) Lindsey, all of Pontotoc; one brother, Willie (Brenda) Hamilton of Pontotoc; 40 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Enothy P. Wilson
HOUSTON - Enothy P. Wilson, 53, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Baptist Hospital in Southaven. She was born July 5, 1956, to Raymond Posley and the late Pauline Johnson Posley. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Outreach Ministry in Okolona. She was the first lady and Sunday School teacher at Silver Ridge in Macon, where she and her husband are pastors.
Services were held Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Mt. Calvary Outreach Church in Okolona with the Rev. Ronald Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Lower Prairie Creek Cemetery in Mantee. Williams Memorial of Okolona was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Pastor Ronald Wilson; two sons, Jaledric Ryshun Wilson and William Rashod Wilson (Sherita), all of Houston; her father, Raymond Posley of Mantee; one brother, Lyn Roy Posley (Renae); six sisters, Nova (Charles) Wofford of Mantee, Elizabeth Dean (Thomas) of Cedar Bluff, Shirley Flagg of Mantee, Bobbie Atkinson (Lester), Rhonda Blutt, Viola (Eugene) Ford, all of Mantee; three grandchildren.
Myra Hancock
HOUSTON - Myra Etta Rhodes Hancock died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Floy Dyer Manor after an extended illness. She was born Jan. 21, 1925, to Charles Lee Rhodes and Lola Estelle Evans Rhodes in Houston. She was the widow of James Edwin Hancock. She was retired from Houston Ceramic Tile and a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Houston and a former member of the Trace Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
Services were held Friday, July 31, 2009 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Houston with the Rev. Daniel Heeringa officiating. Burial followed Chickasaw Memorial Gardens in Houston.
Survivors include three sons, Edwin Hancock and his wife, Wanda, of Woodland, Jake Hancock of Pickwick, Tenn., and Bob Hancock and his wife, Divinia, of Houston; seven grandchildren, Gary Hancock and his wife, Missy, of Houston, Cindy Cockell and her husband, John Paul, of Houston, Suzanne Moore and her husband, Dewitt, of Houston, Allyson Moore and her husband, Darrell, of Tupelo, Mark Hancock and his wife, Nikki, of Houston, Philip Hollingsworth and his wife, Kellie, of Houston, and Anthony Hancock and his wife, Mallory, of Houston; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Burgess of Houston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Edwin Hancock, on Feb. 13, 1981; her daughter, Linda Ann Hollingsworth, on Feb. 24, 1987; her grandson, John Hancock, on March 1, 1991; her brothers, Bethard McKibben, Charles Rhodes, Johnny Rhodes, Cecil Rhodes and James Ed Rhodes; and her sisters, Esta Clark and Martha McKibben.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Harmon, Rick Huffman, John Fred Lancaster, Kirkham Dendy, Michael James and Rodney Griggs.
L.T. Gathings Sr.
WEST POINT - L.T. Gathings Sr. died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Aberdeen.
Services were held Friday, Aug. 1, 2009 at Second Baptist M.B. Church in Prairie. Burial followed in the Gathings Family Cemetery in Prairie. Carter Funeral Home of West Point was in charge of the arrangements.
Alice Starks
PHEBA - Alice L. Montgomery, 58, died July 28, 2009 at Heart to Heart Hospice. Services were held Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009 at Bluff Creek M.B. Church in Maben with Pastor Alvin Tate officiating. Interment followed in Bluff Creek Cemetery. Belle Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen was in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Stacks; one son; two daughters; five brothers; six sisters; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchildren.

Hopson Quick
Mary Frances Quick, age 71, passed away in Tallahassee, Florida, July 24, 2009.
Funeral services where held Monday, July 27, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel in Monticello. The family received friends on Sunday, July 26, 2009 from 4-6pm. Internment followed at Bethel Cemetery. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, please send contributions in memory of her to the First Baptist Church of Monticello, FL.
Mrs. Quick lived most of her life in Leon and Jefferson County. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Monticello and attended the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Jefferson County Graduating Class of 1955. Mrs. Quick retired from the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle after 30 years of service.
Mrs. Quick is survived by one son John Quick (Sheri) of Tallahassee, FL; two daughters Lynn Kornegay and Lucy Quick both of Tallahassee, FL; three brothers Frank "Hoppy" Hopson (Jean) of Thaxton, MS; Roy Hopson (Edna) of Monticello, FL; and Robert Hopson (Betty) of Deland, FL; one sister Sarah Pittman (Harold) of Monticello, FL; one sister-in-law Barbara Hopson, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mrs. Quick was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Quick; her parents, Richard and Reatha Hopson; and three grandchildren Mary and John and Tiffany; and one brother, Eugene Hopson.
Jason Tutor
BRUCE - Jason Tutor, 31, died Thursday, July 30, 2009, at the Calhoun Health Services in Calhoun City. He was born June 7, 1978, in Tupelo. He was a graduate of Bruce High School Class of 1996. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and attended Bruce First Baptist Church. He was an employee of Bruce Farm Supply. He was an avid sports fan and sportsman.
Services were held Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce. Dr. Daniel Hathorne officiated, and the Rev. Joey Hamilton assisted. Burial was in Memory Memorial Garden in Bruce.
Survivors include his wife, Lauren Yarbrough Tutor of Bruce; one son, Jace Clark Tutor, and one daughter, Lily Kate Tutor, both of Bruce; his father, Jerry Wayne Tutor (Rhonda) of Bruce; his mother, Cindy Wooten Williams of Bruce; one sister, Emily Snelllings (Shawn) of Bruce; two brothers, Craig Tutor (Sandee) and Scott Tutor, all of Bruce; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Phil and Vickie Yarbrough of Bruce.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William D. and Minnie Raye Wooten, and R.V. Tutor and Wayne Tutor.
