Bill Langford
LUMBERTON - William Levi "Bill" Langford, 87, died Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. He was born March 19, 1922 in Yazoo City to Robert Lee and Sara Estelle Taylor Langford. He was the owner and distributor or KAM and Rose Dog Food. He was a World War II Veteran with service in the United States Navy. He lived in Jayess for 31 years and moved to Lumberton 13 years ago where he was a member of Gum Pond Baptist Church.
Services were held Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Monticello. Interment followed in the Roberts Memorial Cemetery in Jayess.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Cole Langford of Lumberton; one son, Barry E. Langford of Tupelo; one step-son, Steve Backstrom of Lumberton; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Bonnie Williams Langford; three brothers, Taylor H. Langford, Simmie D. Langford and Lester H. Langford; three sisters, Amelia L. Harris, Peggy L. Harrison and Frances L. Pedde.
Leon Lambert
COLDWATER - Leon Lambert, 81, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Booneville. He was born June 17, 1928, in Burnsville. He was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps with the rank of CWO4. He served during the Korean conflict and Vietnam. He was a member of Antioch Lodge 549 and a Shriner in Sudan Temple in New Bern, N.C.
Services were held Friday, July 24, 2009 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce. Burial was in the Bruce Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Brasher Lambert of Coldwater; two sons, Joe Lambert (Eileen) and Richard Lambert (Malisa), both of Hernando; one sister, Sue Mixon of Houston; two brothers, Charles Lambert of Coldwater and Bobby Lambert of Jasper, Ark.; four grandchildren, Elissa Lambert, Andrew Lambert, Matthew Lambert and Madeline Lambert.
He was preceded in death by his parents, H.R. Lambert and Maudie Marler Lambert, and five sisters, Omie Powell, Evelyn Hunsucker, Frances Colston, Jimmie Collums and Johnnie Ward.
Pallbearers were Jeff Lambert, Justin Lambert, Jerrol Hunsucker, Jerry Colston, Steve Ward, Mark Lambert and Joe Darwin Lambert.

Mary Hicks
PONTOTOC - Mary Ann Henderson Hicks, 64, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Formerly of Vardaman, she was retired from the Franklin Corporation. She was a member of Judah Church of The Lord Jesus Christ.
Services were held Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Danny Washington officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Cemetery in Vardaman.
Survivors include three daughters, Robbie Tutor (Stanley) of Vardaman, Angie Hester (Danny) of Pontotoc, and Candy Hill (Brian) of Pontotoc; one son, Matt Bennett (Janice) of Pontotoc; one sister, Lee Edna Thompson of Sparta; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Hicks; son-in-law James Coats; grandson, Timmy Coats; and parents, William Christopher Henderson and Hollie Mae Davis Henderson.
Pallbearers were Lyn Hughes, D.J. Washington, Steve Hodges, Dewayne Baughman, Tim Hicks and Jesse Washington.
Annie Caver
HOUSTON - Funeral services for Annie Lee Hill Caver were held Saturday, July 25, 2009 at New Zion M.B. Church in Houston. Burial followed in Prospect Cemetery in Houston.
Carter Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Raymond Buggs
HOULKA - Raymond Buggs, 74, died Saturday, July 18, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
He was a native of Chickasaw County, born to Tommy Garfield Buggs Sr. and Estee Crockett-Buggs. He was a member of West County Line CME Church where he served as steward, trustee, treasurer and past Sunday School superintendent. He was Worshipful Master of Houlka Lodge #143, Joshua of Houlka Court #145 of the Heroines of Jericho and overseer of East County Line Cemetery. He loved gardening and talking. He was a retired railroad supervisor and the widower of Mary Jane Buggs.
Services were held Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Thompson Chapel CME Church in Houlka. Elder Glenn Huggins officiated. Burial was in East County Line Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Buggs (Shirley) of Gary, Ind., Barry Buggs (Mary) of Tupelo and Darrin Buggs (Barbara) of Houlka; one sister, Mary Clopton of St. Louis; three brothers, Walter Buggs (Gussie) of St. Louis, Malcolm Buggs and Tommy Garfield Buggs Jr. both of East Chicago, Ind.; and six grandchildren.
Winnie Pettit
VARDAMAN - Winnie Pettit, 66, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at her home in Vardaman. She was born Jan. 26, 1943, in Vardaman. She was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Services were held Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Friendship Baptist Church at Vardaman. The Rev. Fred Hartley officiated, and the Rev. Gladwin Carpenter and the Rev. Jeremy Williams assisted. Burial was in Elzey Cemetery at Vardaman. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Vardaman was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Campbell (Rick) of Vardaman; three sons, Greg Pettit, Stacy Pettit and Patrick Pettit, all of Vardaman; two sisters, Nelda Moore (Kenneth) of Houston and Virginia Wright (Steve) of Aberdeen; one brother, Keith Spencer (Barbara) of Vardaman; six grandchildren, Makenzi Pettit, Alyssa Murray, Jenna Campbell, Autumn Pettit, Ashton Pettit and Zach Pettit; two special aunts, Clara Spencer of Vardaman and Beatrice Ray of Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Pettit Jr.; and her parents, Raymond Spencer, Lorene Fleming Spencer and Annie Parker Spencer.

Louise Miller
OKOLONA - Louise Miller, 67, died Saturday, July 18, 2009. She was born Dec. 4, 1941, to Ozzie Gardner and Sarah Johnson Gardner. She was a homemaker. She loved caring for her family and cooking.
Services were held Friday, July 24, 2009 at Mt. Calvary Outreach Ministries in Okolona. The Rev. Cleveland Smith officiated. Burial was in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Williams Memorial of Okolona was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Miller of Kalamazoo, Mich., Marilyn Ivy (Cornelius) and Jennifer Bowens (Archie) of Okolona; five sons, Alfonso Miller (Shirley), James Miller and Erskine Miller, all of Okolona, Marcus Miller (Myra) of Tupelo and James Gardner (Lawanda) of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, George Gardner (Thelma) of Nettleton; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Lonnell Miller and Shirley Riggs; three sisters, Ervene Johnson, Elizabeth Walker and Gurylene Taylor.
Judy Cumberland
HOUSTON - Judy Evelyn Cumberland, 61, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at her home. She was born March 11, 1948, to Meriman "Shine" Luther Collins and Edith Alene James Collins. She was a retired furniture factory worker and a member of Pearson Chapel Church of the Nazarene.
Services were held Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Southern Funeral Chapel with Bro. Scott Samuell officiating. Burial was in Georges Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Sammy Cumberland of Houston; one daughter, Beverly Edge, and husband, Jimmy, of Booneville; one stepdaughter, Penny Cumberland Hughes of Grenada; three grandsons, Coty, Samuel and Matthew Edge of Booneville; one granddaughter, Amber Hughes of Grenada; three sisters, Ann Simmons and Robert of Grenada, Nancy Rutherford and Jamie of Calhoun City, and Peggy Finn of Greenville; one brother, Mike Collins of Dallas, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Steven Dean McKiney.

Cleotha Anderson
HOUSTON - Cleotha Anderson, 58, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009. He was born March 9,1951 in Attala County to the late L.D. and the late Josie Rockett Anderson. Visitation was 9 to 11 a.m. on July 25, 2009 at Bethlehem M.B. Church. Service began at 11 a.m. on July 25, 2009 at Bethlehem M.B. Church with the Rev. Willie B. Lairy officiating.
Otha confessed faith in Christ at the age of five and joined the Hopewell M.B. Church in Goodman, MS. In 1984, under the leadership of Rev. Jimmy Pounds, he united with Bethlehem M.B. Church in Houston, MS.
Otha received his high school education from Durant Attendance Center, Durant, MS. He would later attend and graduate from Mississippi Valley State University, the home of the Delta Devils. This is where he met Clementine May who later became his wife on Jan. 22, 1973. This union would bring three children, Vida, Marcus and Reginald. He was a retired law enforcement officer withe the Houston Police Department.
He leaves to cherish his fond laughter of loving wife of 36 years, Clementine May Anderson; four children, Tressica Sellers of Pickens, MS, Vida Contrell, Marcus Tiant, and Reginald Lamont, of Houston, MS. His legacy will continue with seven grandchildren, Robert Sellers, Jr., Kenrick Maxwell, Josie Anderson, Kleshonda Maxwell, Rakeim Sellers, Keyshawn Taylor, and William Anderson. His childhood memories will be missed by six sisters, two brothers, one mother-in-law, seven brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L.D. and Josie Anderson; one brother, J.C. Anderson; and one sister, Betty Jackson.
Services were trusted with Eddie Robinson Funeral Homes of Grenada, MS. Interment was at Ross Hill Cemetery, Houston, MS.
