Gavin Williams

HOUSTON - Gavin Daniel Williams, infant, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the Womens Center in Tupelo. Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2009 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Woodland with Bro. James Hilderbrand officiating.

Survivors include his mother, Tanya Williams; two sisters and one brother. Grandfather, Ronnie Forsythe; two aunts, Tina Thomas and Ronda Colten; one step grandfather, Lloyd Weaver. Preceded in death by a grandmother, Linda Weaver.

Memorial Funeral Home in Houston is in charge of arrangements.

Jeanie Mitchell

ABERDEEN – Carol Jean Gordon Mitchell, 68, died Monday, June 1, 2009, at her residence in Aberdeen. She was born July 26, 1940, to Carl Jack Gordon and Emma Louise Gordon in Okolona. She graduated from Okolona High School. She grew up in Okolona and lived the past 50 years in Aberdeen, where she was a member of First Baptist Church of Aberdeen. She retired from National Bank of Commerce after 35 years of service.

Services were held Thursday, June 4, 2009, in the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Bro. Roy McKay and Bro. Roy McHenry officiating. Burial was in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Charlie Ben Mitchell of Aberdeen; two daughters, Lesa Mitchell Young and husband, Carsie, of Aberdeen, and Kay Mitchell Rea and husband, Robert, of Dallas, Texas; one son, Charlie Ben “Mickey” Mitchell Jr. and wife, Jeana, of Brentwood, Tenn.; two brothers, Ted Gordon and wife, Virginia, of Tupelo, and Jack Gordon and wife, Martha, of Okolona; nine grandchildren, John Callon, Ben Chase Callon, William Callon, Blake Mitchell, Mason Mitchell, Morgan Mitchell, Mitchell Rea, David Rea and Katherine Rea.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers were John Callon, Ben Chase Callon, William Callon, Blake Mitchell, Mason Mitchell, Mitchell Rea, David Rea, Jason Cantrell and Donald Bunch.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Arthur Brown, Kenny Tisdale, Thomas Pierce and employees of NBC (Cadence Bank).

Hazel Smith

PHEBA – Hazel Cousins Smith, 74, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, in Beaumont, Texas.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the UFCW Local 1991 Bryan Union Hall in West Point. Burial will follow in Lower Prairie Creek Cemetery. Carter’s Mortuary Services of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.

Cowboy Thomas Jr.

PONTOTOC – Charles Roger “Cowboy” Thomas Jr., 36, died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at his residence. He was born Oct. 14, 1972, in Pontotoc to Charles Roger Thomas Sr. and Martha Pauline Huckaby Thomas.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Houston Funeral Home with Rev. Gregg Herndon officiating. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Houlka. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Katlyn Rose Thomas of Pontotoc; a son, Charles Roger Thomas III of Pontotoc; his mother, Pauline Thomas of Pontotoc; his father, Charles Roger Thomas Jr. (Betty) of Water Valley; three sisters, Deborah Huffman of Houlka, Carla Nell Thomas of Pontotoc and Melissa White (Scott) of Pontotoc; his grandmother, Annette Thomas of Houlka; and the mother of his children, Renee Weeks of Pontotoc.

His nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Polly Morgan

MANTEE – Helen Virginia “Polly” Stephens Morgan, 86, died Sunday, June 7, 2009, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born Aug. 2, 1922, in Mathiston to the late Charles Houston Stephens and Verdie Haney Stephens. She was a homemaker and a member of Mantee Baptist Church.

Services were held Tuesday, May 9, 2009 at Houston Funeral Home with Rev. Bo Farrior officiating and Rev. Paul Stephens assisting. Burial followed at Midway Cemetery in Vardaman. Houston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Gore (Jimmy) of Houston; two sons, Charles Morgan (Cindy) of Starkville and Ronnie Morgan (Judy) of Vardamanl; nine grandchildren, Valerie Pulliam, Jay Gore, Jennifer Clark, Laurie Wissman, Rachael Carter, Michelle Guyton, Stephen Morgan, Bobby Crestman and Randy Crestman; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hermit William Morgan; three brothers, Aubrey, Paul and Pervy Stephens; two sisters, Lottie Drain and Mattie Grace Scott.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Morgan, John Guyton, Chad Carter, Jay Gore, Stan Pulliam, Dr. Steve Clark, Eric Wissman and Dr. Joe Pulliam.
