Gerald Ferguson
RANDOLPH – Gerald Glenn Ferguson, 62, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was a graduate of Randolph High School. He was a member of Carey Springs Baptist Church and a former member of the National Guard at Pontotoc. He was an employee of Futorian before becoming disabled.
Services were held Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009 at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with the Rev. Gerald Finley officiating. Burial were in Guinn Cemetery.
Survivors include brothers, Beryl Ferguson, Wayne (Bobbie Ruth) Ferguson, Bill (Ann) Ferguson, Jimmy (Elaine) Ferguson, Bobby (Bobbie) Ferguson; sister, Virginia (John) Holloway; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Opal Ferguson; his father, William Ferguson; a brother, Raymond Ferguson; and a nephew, Randy Ferguson.
Pallbearers were Tim Ferguson, Matt Butts, Raymond Jordan, Scot Spragins, Tommy Harrison and Doug Patterson.
Michael Wilson
SOUTHAVEN – Michael Wilson, 45, a product specialist for York International, died Saturday, October 17, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Wilson was born February 23, 1964 in Jackson, Tenn., and was a member of Sardis Lake Baptist Church.
Visitation was held Thursday, October 22, 2009 with services at 11 a.m. at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven. Burial followed in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Southaven.
He is survived by his stepson, B.J. Bradley of Southaven; mother, Peggy Bennett of Hernando; father, George Wilson of Batesville; two brothers, Mark Wilson of Horn Lake, and George Joseph Wilson of TX; and one sister, Mary Wilson Stacy of Virginia.
Ruth Barnett
CALHOUN CITY – Annie Ruth Barnett, 75, died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at the Calhoun Health Services Nursing Home. Formerly of Vardaman, she was born Oct. 5, 1934, in Calhoun County. She was a retired employee of Kellwood Company and a member of New Liberty Baptist Church.
Services were held Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009 at New Liberty Baptist Church of Vardaman with the Rev. Jeff Harmon officiating. Burial was in the New Liberty Cemetery. Pryor Funeral Home of Calhoun City was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Hill (Jamie) of Vardaman, Judy Birmingham (Burt) of Okolona and Donna Longest (Scott) of Water Valley; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Barnett; her parents, Andrew Vanlandingham and Lula Parker Vanlandingham; and a brother, Leroy Vanlandingham.
Pallbearers were Burt Birmingham, Scott Longest, Jamie Hill, Spencer Hill, Johnny Kakales, Ethan Longest and Lucas Birmingham.
Carol Schwalenberg
HOUSTON – Carol Ann Schwalenberg, 62, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born May 24, 1947, in Vardaman, but she lived most of her life in Thorn. She was a charter member of Thorn Volunteer Fire Department, Thorn Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and the Chickasaw County Fire Services. She was a longtime officer of the Mississippi Firefighters State Auxiliary, a charter member of Mississippi Association of Public Fire Safety Educators, a member of the Mississippi Firefighters Association and a member of the Mississippi Burn Camp Foundation. She worked statewide on fire safety education and received national, state and local honors for her work in fire prevention.
Services were held Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at Southern Funeral Chapel with Bro. Rusty Keen officiating. Burial was in Poplar Springs Cemetery in Calhoun County.
Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Schwalenberg of Tupelo, and Angela Williams and Tom of Eupora; one grandson, Jeremy Schwalenberg of Tupelo; one granddaughter, Amber Williams of Eupora; one sister, Gail Barfield of Houston; one brother, Ricky Vance and Sindy of McLeod, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larandall Schwalenberg, on Jan. 24, 2008; her parents, Clifton and Helen Vance; and one infant son.
Chickasaw County Fire Service members served as pallbearers.

Clarence Neal Jr.
HOUSTON – Clarence Neal Jr., 59, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Services were held Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at New Hope United Methodist Church in Van Vleet. Burial was in the church cemetery. Carter’s Mortuary Services of West Point was in charge of the arrangements.
Kimberly Williams
BRUCE – Kimberly Jean Williams, 39, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 from an auto accident in Bruce.
Services were held Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Austin and the Rev. Benny Hill officiating. Interment followed in the Poplar Spring Cemetery in Vardaman.
Mrs. Williams was born Sept. 1, 1970 in Tupelo to Carroll Ray and Shirley Morgan. She was a former employee of Wal-Mart in Grenada. She was a graduate of Vardaman High School, Class of 1986 and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. She loved her family and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband, Chad Williams of Bruce; her father and mother, Carroll Ray and Shirley Morgan of Vardaman; one son, C.J. Williams of Bruce; two daughters, Morgan Edwards and Autumn Williams, both of Bruce; one step-daughter, Samantha Williams of Houlka; two brothers, Carroll David Morgan (Regina) of Houlka and Keith Morgan (Tonya) of Houston; grandmothers, Mae Chandler and Clara Mae Morgan, both of Vardaman; two brothers-in-law, Jeremy Williams of Houlka, and Raich Morgan (Nagisa) of Japan; one sister-in-law, Angel Swords (Matt), and baby Carson of Pontotoc.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Durell Chandler and Ray Morgan.
Pallbearers were David Ward, Robert Bailey, Jeremy Williams, Jake Holladay, Tim Holladay.
Cecil Shempert
BRUCE – Cecil Eugene Shempert, 49, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at his home.
He was born Sept. 28, 1960, in Morris, Ill. He was a truck driver and had been disabled for the past 10 years
Graveside services were at 3 p.m. on Oct. 25, 2009 at Macedonia Cemetery with Bro. Gary Sullivan and Bro. Dewindle Nelms officiating.
Survivors include his mother, Rosie Faye and her husband, Kenny Jackson, of Mantee; two sisters, Janice Langford and her husband, Larry, of Nettleton, and Vanessa Bivins and her husband, TC, of Vernon, Texas; three brothers, Clayton Shempert and his wife, Elizabeth, of Sparta, Chester Shempert and his wife, Marylin, of Spokane, Wash., and Calvin Shempert Jr. and his wife, Bobbie, of Vardaman; one stepsister, Sandy Helms of Maben; one stepbrother, Kenny Jackson Jr. of Mathiston; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Shempert Sr.; his brother, Danny Joe Shempert; his sister, Wanda Ellis; and his grandparents.
