OKOLONA – The Okolona Chieftains may have made the smart move in the early season, suffering some defeats at the hands of larger schools and programs. Now in the second half of the season, they are rolling through their district matches and eyeing a top seed in playoffs.

Last Tuesday, the Chiefs gained their fourth straight district win over Tremont, 72-23, following wins over Smithville, Houlka and Ingomar. The win over the Eagles moved the Chiefs to 11-6 on the year. Marquez Conway and Ryan Isbell led the scoring with 14 points each, followed by Brandon Donaldson with 11.

Lady Chiefs move to 3-1

The Lady Chiefs have mirrored the boys team, coming on strong in the second half of the season and racking up three quick wins in district play, falling only to the Lady Falcons of Ingomar.

They posted a 55 -52 win over Tremont with Quinndella Ford leading the scoring with 31 followed by Latifah Boone with 13. Their record of 3-12 may mislead some, but all three wins come in district bouts.

Upcoming action

The Okolona teams were set to travel to Vardaman for another district match on Tuesday and will wrap up their quest for a high seed with Calhoun City this Friday in the Wildcats gym.
