Feb. 2: Relay for Life

Orgainizational meeting

- The annual Relay for Life event is currently being planned and an organizational meeting for interested persons will be held Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Houston Fire Station. For the last several years, organizers have made county-wide participation in the event a goal.

Teams are being sought to participate in the event which raises money to help find a cure for cancer. Committee leaders and members are also being solicited to serve in various areas. One goal for 2009 is to incorporate more youth in the event. Church groups, youth groups, school and civic clubs are all invited to participate.

Egypt VFD meeting planned

- An organizational meeting is set for Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. to discuss the formation of a Volunteer Fire Dept. in the Egypt community in East Chickasaw County. Currently the community is served by the Okolona Fire Dept. and the Southeast Chickasaw VFD.

All interested persons are invited to attend the meeting at the Egypt voting precinct.

OCMP meets Feb. 2

- The Okolona Community Mentorship Program will hold a meeting on Feb. 2 at 5 p.m. at the high school regarding the 2009 mentor's program. The program was formed by a joint effort between the Okolona Municipal School District and Excel, Inc. All interested persons are invited to attend and mentors are needed for the program.
