Trinity Revival cancelled June 17

- Trinity Outreach east of Houston has cancelled the June 17 revival at the facility. The Chickasaw Journal reported in error that it was still set for that date. We regret the error.

We will print the correct revival date as soon as it is made available to us.

Homecoming set for July 4

- The traditional block party, Houston Homecoming, will have a special impact this year as it will be held on Saturday, July 4. The annual Homecoming is usually set for the Saturday prior to July 4, but since Independence Day fell on a Saturday this year, guests will have an extra reason to come out and enjoy the festivities.

Committees are working to make the event a big success and have lined up entertainment to include Houston's Molly May, Elvis impersonator Mitchell Johnson of Vardaman, gospel group Hearts in Service and Loose Gravel from New Albany.

Homecoming is a celebration of small town life held on the Houston Courthouse Square and has served as a vehicle to encourage former residents to return home to visit.

The festivities will kick off with a Veteran's parade at 4:45 p.m. and entertainment will follow. A fireworks show will cap the evening at 9:15 p.m.

Everyone is invited to come out for an afternoon and evening of fun and fellowship. Bring lawn chairs and "set a spell."

FSA county committee nominations open June 15

- Farmer and rancher candidate nominations begin June 15 for local Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committees. The nomination period continues through Aug. 3, 2009. Elections take place this fall.

In order to be eligible to serve on an FSA county committee, a person must participate or cooperate in a program administered by FSA, be eligible to vote in a county committee election and reside in the local administrative area in which the person is a candidate.

FSA county committee members make decisions on disaster and conservation programs, emergency programs, commodity price support loan programs and other important agricultural issues. Members serve three-year terms.
