Declare your Independence and bring our family and visitors to the Fourth of July Homecoming this Saturday at the Courthouse square in Houston. The planning committee is ready for you to enjoy music, fellowship, food and fun. Lanny Wilson is the committee Chairman and invites all to join the fun.
Set to perform are Tracey Smith of Tupelo, Heartsong of Houston, Mitchell Johnson of Vardaman, Molly May of Houston and Loose Gravel of New Albany. Serving as Master of Ceremonies will be Chuck Carroll.
All veterans of military service are asked to assemble at 4:30 p.m. in front of the Lower Elementary School in Houston and ride the Veteran’s Wagon to downtown Houston in the parade. Children are asked to ride their favorite mode of transportation.
The program opens on the East side of the Chickasaw County Courthouse at 5 p.m. Folks are reminded to please bring your lawn chair. Speaker on the program is Zack Huffman. Food and drinks will be available. For information on concessions stands, call Mary Smith at 456-3382.
A highlight of the evening will be the sky illumination at 9:15 p.m. in the Houston Homecoming Fireworks show.
Extra added for the Houston Homecoming Celebration will be the Houston Carnegie Library Centennial Open House, 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Mississippi’s first Carnegie Library, 105 West Madison Street in Houston. There will be a special ceremony at 2:30 at the library, observing 100 years of service.
Several community leaders will make comments and be recognized during the Houston Homecoming Celebration.
