HOUSTON - The Lady Toppers started their week off with a big 15-0 shut-out of the Lady Wave of West Point with Shelby Whitt taking the win on the hill. The Houston girls posted four runs in the third inning and followed with one in the fourth and two in the fifth while denying the West Point girls a score.
The sixth inning saw the Lady Toppers score eight runs to close out the tame with the win.
Multiple hits were recorded by Raven Hayes (3), Haley Gravat (3), Yasmeen Cooper (3), Chelsea Gates, Audie Dendy and Jadie Laufenberg. Dendy had a double and Haves, Gravat and Cooper all had triples in the game.
The Houston girls faltered on the field Thursday as they took on the tough Lady Panthers of Amory in their first division game. The Lady Toppers made the plays in the field to hold the Lady Panthers scoreless in the first and could reach bases, but couldn't cross the plate at home for a run.
In the second inning, the Amory girls reached deep and got the hits for the scores and four runs on the board.
The Lady Toppers rallied for two runs in the fourth, but the Lady Panthers would not be denied, racking up three more in teh sixth and one in the seventh to take their second division win.
Shelby Whitt took the loss on the hill and the Lady Toppers will start out their quest for division playoffs behind the eight ball at 0-1.
Hanna Wilson recorded multiple hits while Raven Hayes gained a double and Audi Dendy had a homer in the effort.
Upcoming actionThe Lady Toppers will host the Lady Indians of Itawamba on Thursday and then play host to the Central County Tournament this Saturday. Monday, they will travel to East Webster for a rematch with the Lady Wolves.
