PHEBA - The Hebron Christian Eagles saw their dream become a reality with a big 27-6 win over the Winona Christian Stars Friday night and pay off with a division 3-A championship.
The Eagles got on the board in the first quarter as Mark Vaughan recovered a Winona fumble and returned it for a TD. The conversion pass failed, but the Hebron boys took the 6-0 lead. Senior QB JoJo Pearson found his mark as he hit Daniel Lawson for eight yards and a second Eagle TD. Kicker Tate Cutshall remained as consistent as he has been on the season, sending the ball through the uprights for a 13-0 halftime lead.
Pearson kept the ball on the ground for the third Hebron TD, driving eight yards across the goal for the score and Cutshall repeated his effort to extend the lead to 20-0.
Winona got on the board in the fourth quarter as Wade O'Bryant pushed across for a three-yard TD, but Pearson pushed over one more TD on a one-yard run and Cutshall sent the PAT in for a 27-6 victory.
Hebron finished the regular season with a record of 7-3 and went perfect in division at 5-0.
The Eagles will take on Alpha Christian this week while preparing to face Briarfield in the playoffs.
