CALEDONIA - The Houston Hilltoppers began the regular season last Saturday with two wins on the road at Caledonia.

Lady Toppers

The Lady Toppers got off to a slow start but quickly found their groove.

"We started off cold from the floor," said Coach Dana Buchanan. "Once we settled in, we shot the ball well. And our defense was good the entire game."

The Houston girls went up 19-7 in the first quarter and extended their lead to 27-11 at the half. The second half was all Houston as they held the Caledonia girls to five total points and walked off with a 57-17 win.

Tynita Baker led the Lady Toppers with 17 points.

Buchanan's team had a few missing players due to family emergency and injury, but the Lady Toppers are starting the season 2-0 after a tournament win over Vardaman. The girls will be working on their skills for their next game.

"The only negative is that I didn't feel like we boxed out consistently," Buchanan said.

The Lady Toppers will kick off a popular county match at 6 p.m. on Friday as they travel to Houlka to take on the Lady Wildcats.

Hilltoppers

The Toppers got their first win of the season in their first game of the season as they dropped Caledonia 82-61. The Toppers got off to a slow start and dropped behind 18-17 after the first quarter, but turned on the juice and posted 31 points in the second quarter and didn't look back. The Toppers led 48-32 at the half and gained another five points in the third and held even in the fourth on their way to a win.

Evander Wofford led the Toppers with 28 points, followed by Kirby Jones with 15, Malcolm Hogan with 12 and Devante Pulliam with 10.

The Toppers will head up the county to take on Houlka this Friday.
