OKOLONA - The Okolona Chieftains met head on with the 4A Oxford Chargers to start the season and didn't lighten their load any last week as they took on the Bearcats of Baldwyn. The Chiefs started off with a 27-23 first quarter lead, but the Bearcats came on in the second to close the half up 46-45. The Chiefs and Bears matched with 15 each in the third, but a big 25-point fourth quarter put the Baldwyn boys on top for a 86-74 win.

David Gardner led for Okolona with 26 points, followed by Brandon Donaldson with 16.

Lady Chiefs fall

The Lady Chiefs are making a name for themselves this season, putting up impressive scores against much larger programs, but fell shy of the mark in their quest for a win against the Lady Bearcats last week.

Baldwyn took a 16-10 lead in the first and gained a 40-24 edge at the half.

The Lady Chiefs came out strong in the third, posting 21 points and put up 17 in the fourth, but it wasn't enough as they took a 83-62 loss.

Quinndella Ford led for the Lady Chiefs with 23 points, followed by Ravin Barr with 20 and Latifah Boone with 17.
